It has been confirmed that Atlanta based rapper "Dolla," also known as Roderick Anthony Burton II has been killed in a shooting at the Beverly Center shopping mall.

According to Burton's publicist Sue Vannasing, he was shot in the head and killed this afternoon by an assailant at the Beverly Center. The victim's identity has yet to be officially confirmed by the LA County coroner's office.

Burton is best known for his work on the soundtrack for the 2006 dance film "Step Up" and for the two singles released with the singer Akon: "Like This" and "She So Fine."

The shooting was reported about 3:15 p.m. on the ground floor of the mall, near two restaurants.

LAPD Sgt. Ronnie Crump said the man was shot at the valet parking entrance to the mall on La Cienega Boulevard.

According to Vannasing, Burton and D.J. Shabbazz, another rapper, were waiting at the valet stand after a shopping trip when the shooting occurred.

He was rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he died and hour later of his wounds.

Two suspects fled the scene.

One in a silver Mercedes Benz SUV. The other in a Nissan Altima.

The suspect who fled from the mall in a silver Mercedes - a black male approximately 20-years old - was discovered to be in ticketing Terminal 1 at the Los Angeles International Airport attempting to board a flight.

TMZ is reporting that the suspect detained at LAX goes by the name Aubery Berry, though they are not aware if this is an official name or an alias.

The suspect was discovered to be armed and was detained by police for questioning without incident.

Officials say police were first sent to the westside shopping mall on a report of a group fight.
